Practical tips and strategies for leading technical teams

“Work is a thing you do, not a place you go”

If you want to attract top-notch engineering talent to your technical teams, start embracing this mindset.

I’ve been saying this phrase for years, long before Covid, and I firmly believe it’s the secret to building teams of outstanding engineers.

Competing for talent against gigantic dot-coms, VC-funded unicorns and household names is HARD! But most have a weakness.

They don’t trust people to work fully remote. They don’t trust people to work flexibly. They don’t trust people to collaborate without being together in person.

The key word is “trust”.

But here’s the thing, trust has to be mutual. If you as a manager start from a position of trust in your employees from day one, that trust will be repaid many times over. They’ll feel empowered to work smarter, be more productive, and achieve better results.

Trust your team to work where and when they can be most productive.

Don’t limit yourself to traditional office environments. Embrace the flexibility that technology offers, and trust your team to get the job done.

Remember, what really matters is the quality of the work produced, not the location it’s produced from.

“Work is a thing you do, not a place you go”

Live this philosophy and you will attract the very best and build outstanding technical teams.
